
This was a perfect photographic moment. For me, this image feels like what Henri Cartier-Bresson called capturing the “decisive moment.” The train is sliding into the station with a hint of motion blur as testament to its speed. The conductor is looking past me, down the length of the platform, she’s checking for something, I don’t know what. Perhaps making sure that everyone is behind the white line, that no one is disobeying the rules. Behind her the door to the call box is open, ready, just in case she has to make a last minute announcement.
